Introduction of RDS operation
RDS (radio data system) is a system for provid-
ing information along with FM broadcasts.
This inaudible information provides such fea-
tures as program service name, program type,
traffic announcement standby and automatic
tuning, and is intended to aid radio listeners in
finding and tuning in to a desired station.
1 TEXT indicator
Shows when the radio text is received.
2 Program service name
Shows the name of broadcast program.
3 News (
) indicator
Shows when the set news program is re-
ceived.
4 TP (
) indicator
Shows when a TP station is tuned in.
5 PTY (program type ID code) informa-
tion
Shows the PTY (program type ID code) infor-
mation
! PTY (program type ID code) information
is listed on page 27.
! If a PTY code of zero is received from a
station, display is blank. This indicates
that the station has not defined its pro-
gram contents.
! If the signal is too weak for this unit to
pick up the PTY code, the PTY informa-
tion display is blank.
6 Signal level indicator
Shows the radio wave strength.
1 Press MULTI-CONTROL to display the
main menu.
FUNCTION, AUDIO and ENTERTAINMENT
appear on the display.
2 Use MULTI-CONTROL to select
FUNCTION.
Turn to change the menu option; press to se-
lect.
The function name appears on the display.
3 Turn MULTI-CONTROL to select the
function.
Turn MULTI-CONTROL clockwise or counter-
clockwise to switch between the functions in
the following order:
BSM (best stations memor y)—Regional (re-
gional)—Local (local seek tuning)—
PTY search (program type selection)—
Traffic announcement (traffic announcement
standby)—Alternative FREQ. (alternative fre-
quencies search)—News interrupt (news
program interruption)
# To return to the frequency display, press
BAND.
# If MW/LW band is selected, you can only se-
lect BSM or Local.
Notes
! If you do not operate the function within about
30 seconds, the display is automatically re-
turned to the frequency display.
! RDS service may not be provided by all sta-
tions.
! RDS functions such as AF and TA are only ac-
tive when your radio is tuned to an RDS
station.
